Tour Los Llanos

PROGRAM: LOS LLANOS 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS (from/to Mérida)

1st Day: Depart from Mérida a 8:00 a.m. and traverse the Trans-Andean Highway, drive by picturesque towns such as Mucuchíes and San Rafael. Stop at Mifafi biological station where research on Condors is being carried out. Stop at Laguna de Mucubají located at more than 4.000 meters. In the afternoon we will drive thru the cloud forest of Santo Domingo Valley and after descending 3.500 meters will arrive in the plains of Estado Barinas (Llanos). The night will be spent at a cattle ranch and sleep in single rooms or hammocks.(-/L/D)

2nd Day: We'll go horseback riding for approximately 3 hours in the rancho. On our excursion we may see howler monkeys and several species of birds. After lunch our group will head south towards Estado Apure and after arrival in a small farm we'll spend the night in cabins with hammocks. (B/L/D)

3rd Day: A jeep and a curiara (dugout canoe) will be our mode of transportation today to explore a large area of the Orinoco plains where wildlife abounds. This is a very good opportunity to view and photograph fantastic animals in their natural habitat. Species like capibaras (largest rodent in the world), iguanas, babas (an alligator species), turtles, toninas (fresh water dolphins) and a wide variety of colorful birds are waiting for us. You may try fishing piranhas and perhaps see the elusive anaconda. Night will be in hammocks. (B/L/D)

Soft bag or pack (please no suitcases) with a maximum weight of 10 kg per person, cotton shirts or t-shirts, long pants, shorts, warm jacket or pullover, comfortable shoes, several pair of socks, rubber sandals, raincoat, flashlight, swimwear, towel, biodegradable soap and shampoo, sun-block lotion, insect repellent, hat or cap, camera and film, personal hygiene and medicine items.
